The History of Zionism

A Five-Part Series Created and

Led by Rabbi Brant Rosen

In this series, Rabbi Brant will present five Zionist ideologues, who were - and remain - pivotal to the growth of the Zionist movement. Our class will be a text study, utilizing primary sources.

Class Schedule:

Tuesday Evenings from 7:00-8:30pm CT

November 11: Theodor Herzl and Political Zionism
December 9: Ahad Ha’am and Cultural Zionism
January 13: Vladimir Jabotinsky and Revisionist Zionism
February 10: AD Gordon and Labor Zionism
March 10: Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook and Religious Zionism

Some central guiding questions will include:
• How can we understand these figures and their ideas in historical context? How are they being reconsidered today?
• How do these Zionist ideologies represent a break from Judaism and Jewish life up until that point?
• How do we understand their ideas within the context of ethnic nationalism and settler colonialism?
• What is the legacy of these forms of Zionism today?
